Program Overview:

As a Quantitative Trading Intern, you'll be paired with experienced traders who will guide you in mastering essential skills, including identifying market signals, analysing and executing strategies, constructing quantitative models, conducting statistical analysis, and building valuable trading intuition.

You'll have the opportunity to work on diverse projects alongside mentors in two key areas of trading, offering you a broad perspective on the types of challenges Jane Street tackles daily. Past projects have involved exploring new and existing datasets, building quantitative models, writing tools, and addressing big-picture questions.

Throughout the summer, you'll also engage in numerous interactive, team-based mock trading sessions. These simulations will immerse you in real market dynamics, and help showcase the role that Jane Street plays in making markets more efficient, whilst also sharpening both your trading instincts and collaborative skills.

This work is then reinforced with:

• Intensive classes on the broader fundamentals of markets and trading

• Workshops on the various tools Jane Street uses

• Interactive lunch seminars with senior traders

• An “elective” based on your interests, completed in the second half of the internship

Target Audience:

Jane Street has no expectation for applicants to have a background in finance or any other specific field. They are looking for “smart people who enjoy solving interesting problems”. They place a strong focus on how you think and learn rather than your existing knowledge. They describe their ideal candidate as:

• A strong quantitative thinker who enjoys working collaboratively on a team

• Eager to ask questions, admit mistakes, and learn new things

• Fluent in English

• Whilst knowing a particular programming language is not required, general programming experience is a plus.

NOTE: Jane Street hires worldwide — in 2024 their intern cohort came from 108 different colleges/universities and over 27 different countries. Jane Street will provide flights to and from Hong Kong as well as accommodation throughout the entirety of the program.
